GuoYue Dou is a Canadian artist currently residing in Toronto. He was born in 1960, Tianjin, China. Graduating from Tianjin Academy of Arts and Design, he worked as a graphic designer and interior designer before moving to Canada where he now specializes in fine arts and portraiture. GuoYue Dou is a full time artist, and devotes most of his time on creating inspiring artwork. He paints a variety of subjects; landscape, still life, and figurative art. He paints in a realistic style, capturing the atmosphere’s detail and beauty. Throughout the past, GuoYue Dou has attended many art shows, such as Art Expo in Toronto, Art in the Part in Windsor, Bon Echo Art Exhibition and Sale in Bon Echo, The Canadian Portrait: Today and Tomorrow of the Portrait Society of Canada, and was a finalist in the International Portrait Competition 2008 hosted by the Portrait Society of Canada.
Recently, he has been interested in city life, and is currently doing a series of pieces on this subject. He focuses on people living in the city, and their thoughts and emotions are portrayed through their expressions, and the background atmosphere. His main mediums are oil and acrylic, which he uses old techniques to portray the atmosphere of the work as a whole. Through the city life, Dou became interested and concerned with how much our daily lives effect the world around us. He expresses his concern through his art, hopefully bringing awareness to others. Due to Dou’s realistic style of painting, he is able to convey the atmosphere clearly and effectively, and portrays the subject in all its true beauty. GuoYue Dou enjoys the wonders of art, and continues to paint and inspire others.
